Up until recently this hotel was a Marriott, and it’s pretty easy to tell – it remains a very nice, very well maintained facility. The rooms plenty nice enough – well maintained and spacious, and the hotel is much smaller than some of the other massive hotels in the area. The staff told me that the lobby is expected to undergo a full-on renovation during the coming weeks.

It’s pretty ideally located. The hotel overlooks Walton Spring Park, a small square that a welcome green sight in the rest of the crowded city. But just behind the hotel, maybe a block away, is probably the highlight of an Atlanta trip: Centennial Olympic Park. Of course alongside the park you get some of Atlanta’s best and most famous attractions, like the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke museum. You also get a view of the new skyview ferris wheel.

For a taste of Atlanta, you’re not too far from the original The Varsity drive-in. But right down the street is a Ted’s Montana Grill.

One detail that I thought was neat is that the hotel uses old style wooden elevators, and manage to do so without feeling unsafe – no small feat in my mind.

The Hilton Doubletree is a great location for tourists—you’re within walking distance to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, Philips Arena, and Centennial Olympic Park—but still in a very safe area of the city. The rooms are very clean and well-maintained with big, plush beds. Unfortunately, they do not offer a grab-and-go style breakfast, but the hotel restaurant offers a really nice buffet with made-to-order omlettes. While I was there the staff was very courteous with any guest questions or concerns. Also--this is one of the few mid-range hotels downtown with a pool. If you’ve never visited Atlanta in the summertime, believe me, you’ll want a hotel with a pool. I think this location is absolutely ideal for vacationers and families.

There is no free internet in the rooms. You have to go downstairs and sit in the lobby to use it. All in all, that kinda blows as if I want to check my email at 3 am in the morning, I have to go downstairs for it or pay $10 a day. If there were internet in the rooms, this place would get 5 stars.
