The Double Tree is a good deal. They still have the cookies, but they've stepped up the classyness a notch in Kuala Lumpur.
One of the best things is that the buffet, which is on a floor with a view, has several kitchens, so you can try Chinese, Indian, Malay, Paranakan, Kristan, and Iban food all at the same time, but in a place with name cards and made right in front of you in small quantities if you want, so then if you go out and try food from the hawkers, you know what you're getting into when you order a full sized portion. This was my first trip to Malaysia, and I had, and still have a lot to learn about Indian pickled vegetables and Chinese rice dumplings, and fermented prawn paste and Malaysian shaved ice with brown sugar syrup and beans and seeds and sweet corn and jelly. So the buffet was a fun introduction.
It's a new building and the service level, small details, (there were pitchers of ice water and tea at check in) and rooms at the Double tree, compete with all the luxury hotels in the city. The salt water pool and wine tasting space right by check in are beautiful.
The location is central, and with a sky bridge crossing over Jalan Ampang, you don't have to take a taxi to go out at night.
My only complaint is that the entry-way is a little weird. Check in is on the second floor, but the hotel is in a building with a shopping complex, so there is definitely a mattress store on the first.

The uneasy feeling from the lobby where the concierge and reception is located will be reduced by the free water and tea as you enter. When you go in you would feel like it’s another boring high rise hotel in an unoccupied shopping mall but when you reach the inner location of the facilities there is several things which is really impressive. First of all they have a building structure of all around the swimming pool where the restaurant, café and gymnasium is located. All of these places can view the swimming pool from the second floor which actually emphasize the modern architectural construction of the place. The hotel has three different kind of kitchen which is quite impressive. They have an executive chef who controls all three of the kitchen which has the theme of Chinese cuisine, Indian cuisine and also Malay cuisine. They also have a small hookahs smoking area at the end corner of the dining area. The rooms are really funky and cozy with a small weird device for entertainment and the balcony of the executive room at the top floor is not really a comfortable place because of the noise from the air-conditioner which is not cordoned off from the balcony. Overall the place is really impressive because of the way they manage the design in the facilities and the structure of the hotel is compact but the vibe of the design makes you feel like you’re in a very spacious surrounding.
