Very clean hotel and helpful staff. Improving this hotel would be to make it more quiet. Cars and the garbage truck can be heard easily. Oh, a more spacious parking garage would also help.

Modern meets just plain cool. I was fully impressed with this hotel: from the in-room Wolfgang Puck coffee to the flatscreen expanded-cable TV, the Crabtree & Evelyn amenities (call me crazy, but I don't fancy the cheap, sterile brand shampoos that strip my hair) down to the incredible island-themed pool. There are plenty of chairs, sofas, and loveseats on which to lounge or work in the gorgeous lobby (I loved the sweeping staircase) - or pop into Panini's and try one of their oven-baked pizzas while you work or socialize. You can buy snacks, ice cream, or essentials in the little lobby shop - even beer! Big win. Best of all, however, was the stunning view of rows and rows of palm trees, brilliant blue sky, and the intoxicating San Diego sunshine outside the room window. Le sigh.Recommended for:

This is certainly a gorgeous hotel. From the gigantic modern lobby and high windows with views to the sheltered pool outside, the office building look of the front did not do this hotel justice. My room was modern and chic, and had a nice flat screen TV to stare at while in the fluffy bed. I also appreciated that the bathroom trashcan had a division in it to separate between waste and recyclables. The gym was a little more extensive than most other hotel gyms that I’ve seen, as it had a little more than just the basic couple of treadmills. I’m generally not amused by hotels in San Diego that charge for parking, but that seems to be de rigueur in this hotel-rich pocket of Mission Valley.

If you like living the swanky lifestyle, but can't afford to do it like the movie stars, this Doubletree will deliver. The moment I walked into the lobby I felt as though I should be wearing oversized sunglasses and be holding a glass of champagne. The room had a big balcony and was roomy and comfortable. The hotel also has a panini restaurant and a little snack shack next to the lobby. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. There is a fitness center and a nice sized pool surrounded by palm trees. A little slice of the San Diego beach without the impossible parking and crowded shore! Though I usually like to find hotels that aren't chains, I have to admit that this Doubletree has it all. There is overnight parking for $16, or if you don't mind the walk there is a street a block away that you can park on for free.
