The Doubletree is easy to find because it's one of the tallest buildings in NE and it has the Doubletree insignia on the top of the building. It's a convenient location and can fill up for conventions. Across the street is Lloyd Center Mall, a park and a MAX station. The hotel is also about 15 minutes from the airport, ...

Excellent food in Gabriel Rucker's famous restaurant. Here you will find slightly-off-the-beaten-path versions of classic dishes, like crepes made with nettles, beef bourguignon made with beef cheeks, and foie gras profiteroles with caramel sauce and sea salt for dessert.

In a nutshell: dark, small plates, meat-heavy. I enjoyed the "french kisses" (prunes stuffed with foie gras) so much that I ordered two plates, just for me. The omelet with shaved truffle seemed terribly inappropriate at 9 p.m., but it truly hit the spot. I felt like a queen eating such decadent dishes!

Two things about this venue: 1) My paranoid friend who watched the tragic White Snake fire video one too many times always made sure to point out that there were only two possible exits downstairs because she thought it was a deathtrap waiting for a band stupid enough to set off fireworks; 2) At another time, I tried to kiss ...

Pambiche is a bright colored restaurant serving all sorts of flavorful Cuban food. I had the Cuban sandwich, which consists of layers of cheese, ham, and a fried croquetta. My friend had a rice and shrimp dish with a red, glazed sauce. Seating is limited and it can get crowded so avoid arriving at peak hours or you might have ...

Nicholas is a popular Lebanese restaurant in Portland with several locations throughout the metro area. Their nan bread is huge and nearly takes up the entire table. I love their fragrant and buttery rice. Everything else that I've had on their menu has been great.

    Bunk Sandwiches

0.96 mi from Doubletree Hotel Portland

Co-chefs Tommy Habetz and Nick Wood change their blackboard menu daily, but know to keep favorites like this pork belly cubano in regular rotation. Their version of the Cuban workman’s lunch is improved by swapping out roast pork for house-cured, molasses-rubbed pork belly, slow roasted until fork tender. Ham, Tillamook Swiss, and pickles round out this pressed sandwich on a ...

This restaurant is one of the best places to eat in Portland. The Asian-fusion style food is incredible, you can't go wrong no matter what you order. Don't get discouraged if there is long line for a table, it is worth the wait!

This little gem is a lot of fun. It is a great place to pick up some great desserts or sit in and have a glass of wine and a late night get together with friends. Their Macaroons are killer.

This is the Burgerville that is nearest to the Convention Center and my top choice if I'm not already on public transit looking for something else for Lunch. To feed my inner In N Out Burger cravings, Burgerville is as close as I can get in Portland. So although there will be no "Animal Style" here, this is consistently good ...

A quirky Portland favorite, this music-themed coffee house is famous for its good coffee, delicious treats, and smattering of fun-house tables that turn or rise imperceptibly while you dine and chat. For added fun, don't mention the tables to your companions when you take them there and watch their faces when, halfway through their sentence, they realize their coffee cup ...

    Cadillac Cafe

0.49 mi from Doubletree Hotel Portland

One way to beat the weekend Breakfast crowds is to go really early. The very knowledgeable guy at my hotel's front desk raved about Screen Door and opined that the Cadillac Cafe and Tin Shed would be acceptable second choices. However, Screen Door opens at 9 AM, while the two alternatives are open at 7 AM. And since Cadillac Cafe ...

With McMenamins, some locals might see a regional chain among a plethora of more interesting choices. Ah Portlandia! After visiting a number of their establishments, I'm reminded of the huge Pappas chain in Houston. Both that Bayou City family and the McMenamin Brothers have their various concepts and execute them consistently well. And for those lucky enough to enjoy their ...

Yet another after work location hang out, this place is essentially no different from any typical microbrewery in Portland. It's got an outdoor patio (which is now covered) with an area for a small band or DJ, a rotating series of microbrews, slightly elevated bar food, and...nothing else really excites me about the place except that it is in the ...

Looking for a late night bite? Sizzle Pizza is open late until 3 or 4AM. The pizza was thin crust style. You could order a whole pizza pie or try by the slice from a selection of pre-made pies on display. There was something for everybody: meat topped, cheese only, and vegetarian friendly slices. I tried a slice of Vegan ...
