The Denver Aquarium is situated on the east side of Lodo near the REI and Coors Field. When my wife's family came to visit a few years back we split up one day with some of us going on a hike and others going to the Aquarium. My niece and nephew remember the sharks to this day.

The aquarium is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon with your kiddos. It's not the Shed Aquarium by any means, but its still worth a go. Be sure to catch the Mermaid show and meet them afterwards. We also love to feed the stingrays. It's a little pricey once you pay admission and eat there but certainly worth a trip!

Even though it's on the smallish side, Denver's Aquarium still offers plenty of interesting exhibits with a wide variety of animals. It also caters to kids - beware: during weekdays, you might run in to rowdy school groups - with birthday packages and educational classes. The Mermaid exhibit has to be one of the quirkiest kid-friendly programs, where you can watch these "mythical" creatures swim around (and smile though they are probably desperately in need of air). The Aquarium has also started a scuba diving program to get up close and personal with sharks and other fishes.

The local aquarium in downtown Denver is perfect for a day trip of 3-4 hrs. There are classic exhibits with fish mixed in with a large open area housing 3 Sumatran tigers. There is also the opportunity to experience a flash flood- very unique!
