Located just a short walk from El Zócalo, Grupo Habita have taken over the UNESCO World Heritage site Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle and pulled off an absolute masterpiece in pairing cutting edge contemporary design with the original and quite splendid original colonial features. A large inner courtyard separates the cheaper hostel from the grown up hotel - depending on your budget and expectations of luxury, both are pretty good. There are just 17 rooms and suites in the hotel part, but even the dorms in the hostel feel surprisingly spacious. The rooftop bar is a terrific vantage point from which to gaze at the old city skyline and if it gets too stifling, across on the other side is a small lap pool.
