A new vegan, gluten-free restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. Delicious smoothies, juices, teas, sandwiches, salads, and rice and noodle bowls. The perfect place to find clean foods. A must-try!

Everything about this place makes you feel zen. Their natural look and feel of the restaurant, the nice breeze you feel while sitting in their outside patio, and especially while you eat their ever delicious food and drinks.
Try their spring rolls - love their flavor and texture!

In the past, I haven't had a very healthy lifestyle. The processed sugar, the fast food, the lack of exercise- they have taken a toll on my body. Turn the page to today, I am now being more health conscious with the foods I choose to eat and the exercises I undergo for body and mind.
Being a yoga fan, I attended a yoga class at Dr. J's Vibrant Cafe. Perfect opportunity to do some asanas, followed by a healthy lunch.
The class was held in the outdoor patio, with cars driving by on Main Street and umbrellas providing shade. Other than the traffic noise, the class went well on this warm sunny SoCal day. This was an introductory class for beginners, but I was still challenged during some poses and enjoyed utilizing my core muscles to seamlessly transfer between yoga poses. Our instructor was friendly and quite informative on the history of yoga and techniques such as ones involving the breath.
The cafe is 100% organic, 100% vegan, 100% gluten-free and non-GMO, with food made fresh daily from scratch. Here's what we had-
Minced Chunks Spring Wraps-Marinated tofu with thin sliced veggies in a pure fresh wrap. These were delicious, with great texture and saltiness. I would have preferred some sort of dipping sauce because that's what I'm accustomed to with wraps, but definitely a quality dish.
Carrot fries--Nice alternative to potato fries. Carrots were tender and seasoned nicely.
Carob brownies & Dr. J's Supersnack-The carob brownies are made with roasted carob powder and chopped walnuts. The Supersnack is made with rolled oats, sunflower seeds and dates. Both were quite good. I didn't feel bad indulging in some sweets after yoga. My favorite definitely was the carob brownies. Moist, soft and not overly sweet.
Dr. J's Cleansing Balance Tea-Dr. J's original tea formulation with over 11 different herbs and spices, oops that's the Colonel! ;p I meant, over 11 different herbs and ingredients that work to support and cleanse the liver and kidneys. I felt cleansed with each sip. It's not a sweet tea, so don't expect it to be. The tea was soothing, refreshing and the perfect way to hydrate during our meal.
Service was great, our plates were cleaned promptly and we were taken care of well. Ample seating inside and out.
Parking is metered in the front of the cafe and pay lots on Main Street and on adjacent streets.
I highly recommend stopping Dr. J's Vibrant Cafe. Hit up a yoga class and have a healthy, organic lunch afterwards. Your body will thank you later ;p

So there is a time in everyone's life where you wake up and think what have a done to myself! You start telling friends about your glory days and how you want to get back in shape but you never change a thing about your diet. I had a goal this year Don't be an Al Bundy! The glory days are not over! I just saw on the news how a 60 plus year old woman swam from Cuba to Florida and here I'm complaining about wanting to change to eating healthy. Changing what we eat isn't hard.
My goal is to change to a healthy lifestyle. I have been trying Vegan food and trying to embarrass the benefits of Yoga. I don't believe in diets. So, you won't see me eating nasty flavorless food.
I dragged my lazy butt off the couch and decided to take an awesome Yoga class taught by the awesome Yurlee! I gotta say this was the first time that I have done outdoor Yoga. I tried to keep under the umbrellas to maximize my shade. I wasn't down for outdoor HOT yoga. There could be children present. The urban environment was kinda of peaceful. Instead of the sound of rivers and birds, there was a woosh sound of city buses and helicopters overhead. It's like being in a GTA video game. You really get to appreciate the nature of the city. Most of us spend our time with our faces buried in our phones or iPads. Man, what a great Saturday it was!
Next it was time to go inside to try Dr J Cafe! Based on the owner's mom's nickname not the basketball player. Here are a few items I tried.:
Coconut smoothie- Delicious! A great post- workout treat.
Brownie and Super snack- not a fan of the super snack bar but the brownie was tasty and I can't believe it is Vegan.
Dr J Cleansing tea- it was good. It slightly reminded me of an Chinese tea my mom use to make me drink when I was a kid.
The spring rolls are by far my favorite thing that I tried. Combine that with a smoothie and it's perfect!
I enjoyed my first Dr J experience with Yoga and Vegan food. I felt like I was ready to taken on the world. I felt like I treated my body and soul. It made me want to change my eating ways. I'm not converting to Vegan but I do see and feel the benefits. Try Dr J and your body will thank you!Recommended for:Vegetarian
