Drayton Hall is the birthplace of William Henry Drayton a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The grounds are great for bird watching. You will need about 1 hour to visit this site.

Of the three Ashley River Plantations, Drayton Hall is the least flashy but most historically interesting. It's a large stately home that once lorded over a rice plantation. The Discovery Channel did a series called 'The Voices of Drayton Hall,' and you can listen while you're there to stories told by former residents of the home -- both the children of former slaves and the homeowners' families.
