With its fine beaches, great dining (yay bunny chow!), and colorful mixture of Zulu and Indian cultures, Durban is a place that too may people breeze past on their way up to Jo'burg. Walk the length of the beaches and enjoy the sun, shop in Victoria Market for crafts and spices, and eat your heart out -- Durban is more than worth a night or two of your time.

Although I visited Durban many years ago, I have heard via friends and family that it has not changed much over the past few years. New or should I rephrase relatively new marine world is said to be a sensation.

Durban is the 3rd largest city in South Africa BUT it has the largest Indian population outside of Asia. It is also a very busy container port city. Because of the Indian influence in Zulu land, the vibe in Durban is very unique and indeed interesting.

Very pretty town located on the Indian Ocean. I was here for a conference and didn't get an opportunity to do many touristy things, but what I saw was very nice. The beaches were very pretty, and the seafood was awesome.

Durban is a real kick in the pants, lots of exciting things to see and do.
The beach front is a great area to hang out and enjoy the sun, but beware of the local wildlife. Be extra careful when going zwimming.

think its a big harbour city next only to capetown. visited the sea world on the beach and thought of the helicopter ride but had to forego to go with friends to go play pool in the neighbourhood. it was still coming out of the aparthied era in the 1990's.

Find Hotels in Durban:

Description

A stark example of life after apartheid, Durban is full of beautiful architecture, stunning parks, and various vacation services. However, this carefully manicured location has it's fair share of slums, as the results of the once instituted social oppression have flooded the city with those that it formerly shunned. Still, Durban is a wash with various cultures, and everything from the dining scene to the art displays this diversity. There are a number of preforming venues and restaurants that reflect various cultural perspectives, and the city also hosts a few annual celebrations of African literature. Regardless of political and sociological wrongdoings, the obvious draw of this region is undeniable, as it is home to miles of sandy beach, and a bustling population of local wildlife. Just about every sea going activity imaginable can enjoyed from the powdery beaches here, providing this city plenty of ocean-born activity, and helping to make it's port the busiest in all of South ... read more
