Description

This compound of royal residences draws the crowds, and they are indeed impressive. Some 16 mansions and residential halls were built in European style between 1897 and 1901. The largest and most renouned is Vimanmek Mansion, constructed out of golden teak wood, and believed to be the world's largest wooden mansion. A tour of the mansion reveals 31 exhibition rooms, plus the throne room, bathrooms and bedrooms, and provides an insight into the life and lifestyle of King Chulalongkorn and his family, famous for abolishing slavery in Thailand.
