The Dusit Thani is a locally owned and distinctly Thai hotel and building. Apparently it was briefly the tallest building in the city after it opened in 1970 and it ‘s one of the only buildings in the city that combines high-rise architecture with Buddhist influenced architecture. Even if you can’t stay, it’s a good place to come to for a drink at night, for the buffets, or for a piece of cake. Or if you’re seriously ready to dine in style, the restaurant at the top of the hotel, D’sens has been awarded two Michelin stars and serves French cuisine with Mediterranean influences. (I hope you packed shoes other than flip-flops, though.) The people who work throughout the hotel wear traditional silk outfits and in the main lounge--that does look a little like the set of the HBO series Rome--there’s a woman softly playing a khim, something like a hammered dulcimer. We spent a long time looking at the black and white photos of the Dusit Thani in the past and photos of Thai royalty next to photos of bands like Korn who have stayed here. And then we tried but failed to reconcile the images of some of the bands with the vibe in the lounge. This is totally a cool, memorable hotel.

The Dusit Thani was the first really fancy hotel I stayed in, with a suite larger than my apartment and first class service from all of the staff. The concierge was very helpful, writing directions for me in both thai and english to show the taxi drivers. There was a good vietnamese food restaurant nearby and it was much cheaper than the hotel restaurant.
I'd be happy to stay here if I go to Bangkok again.

Walking into Dust Thani you are greeted by suave concierges, flower arrangements, beautiful music and an amazing water feature which is connected to the swimming pool.
One of the first things that stood out for me is the security. You will definitely feel safe here. You are greeted gently and asked politely to show the insides of your bags. There is even some police situated inside the building. The lobby is decorated elegantly with some of the most beautiful flower arrangements I have seen in Thailand.
The rooms were well lit, tastefully decorated, with a very spacious bathroom. It’s a simple upgrade of 1000 baht to include breakfast.
Don’t get me started on food! You could practically not leave the building with all the dining options you have in this hotel. Also food to suit any mood you’re in whether its Vietnamese or even pastries, it’s all under the same roof.
