This is no longer the Duxton, its an Amora hotel chain, which is owned by a Thai thus the picture of the royal thai family in the lobby. For Wellington, this is a 5 star hotel, I know I've stayed at the Intercontinental and this is 'heaps' better. All the rooms have excellent harbor views, the food (esp lamb) is ...

This company does a few "Lord of the Rings" Tours, but I went with a group of writers on one of their newer tours (not yet detailed on their website): The Seal Colony Wind Farm Tour. The 62 wind turbines at the Terawhiti Wind Farm were very impressive. The seal colony had apparently moved on because we saw only two ...

I was only in Wellington for a short stay but it quickly became one of my favorite cities. It is culture and laid back and also incredibly beautiful! On the water front with rocky hills all around. It's nice to take a walk down by the water and look back at the city as it rises into the hills.

Pulsing with a youthful vibe Cuba Street is the place to be in Wellington. It offers a delightful blend of New Zealand charm and beauty with hip local culture, music and performers. It's a nice place to just stroll up and down checking out the shops and grabbing a bite to eat.

A great hiking spot offering beautiful 360 degree views of the city and bay. They also filmed some scenes from Lord of the Rings here, which the nerd in me loves.

Ugly on the outside but very decieving. Inside the building is very spacious and surprising welcoming. Mind you, I was in the building when the Labour party was in power and Helen Clarke was still Prime Minister lols

There is something a bit rugged and grungy about Wellington that I really liked. Places like Slow Boat Records really just added to the cities youthful and hip appeal. They had more records in the shop than I've seen anywhere in quite sometime. Nice place to stop in and get the local feel.

If you're a fan of Peter Jackson's films, this is worth a visit. A small exhibition of props and costumes from Weta Workshop, the special effects studio behind Lord of the Rings, Avatar, etc. It's a bit far from the main sights of Wellington and easiest to reach by car. The display could easily be several times larger, but it's ...
