This cozy coffee shop got even better after recent renovations. There are lots of shared and single tables, and you can choose between the main room where there's more of a buzz or the back rooms that tend to offer a quieter experience. Several outdoor tables, as well. Good pastries, sandwiches, coffee and tea.

My favorite pit stop for caffeine in downtown Monterey. Free Wi-Fi, live events at night, comfily bedraggled chairs for lounging around in during the day, and strong espresso drinks all make it a winner. The pastry case is also mighty tempting, although a bakery just a block away makes croissants I'd rather spring for.

I just read the previous review about the credit card situation, and I have to say that the baristas were not rude at all when I went, however, I did pay cash and not credit so I'm not sure where the animosity is coming from.

I also found this place on Gogobot and figured it would be a nice place to get some good coffee. What came next was completely unexpected. I felt like I was walking into a 15th century castle, by the looks of the inside, and the decor was very inducive to a sleepy Sunday morning with coffee, newspaper, and a crossword puzzle. There are many tables/lounges/couches inside to make yourself comfortable, they serve food (which looked great although I was not hungry) and they have a good selection of coffee, teas and hot chocolate. Their plain latte is great, although the bf got soy and I typically don't like soy but I thought it tasted better than mine.

I wish there was a place in SJ that exuded this kind of ambiance because it's a place that I'd want to come to for relaxing, getting on the internet and catching up with a friend. Great place with great coffee!
