I stayed here during my second visit to Porland, Maine. You can tell from walking in and from the size of the rooms that this used to be one of the grand hotels in the city. Fortunately, it's about to renovated and probably could be great again. The space is a nice change for a reasonably priced hotel in a city and they view of downtown Porland and Casco Bay is pretty good. It's also in a great location with easy access to the best fish/sushi restaurants and brew pubs.

This great old hotel has been rennovated many times but still has the feeling of a grand hotel. There is a connected parking garage and it's a 1/2 block walk to Longfellow Square and varied restaurants, stores and boutiques on Congress St. the Broadway of Portland. There is a truly wonderful penthouse bar and restaurant with a famous view of the whole city and the islands of Casco Bay. Rooms are large and very nicely appointed. There are many great places to eat nearby, several James Beard Best winners like Fore St. and Hugo's, as well and sophisticated oriental reataurants, Pom's Thai Taste and Fuji to name a few. Japanese seafood buyers stalk the early-morning waterfront and air-freighters take some of the best items to Tokyo every night. Also there are raw bars, diners and classic restaurants serving seafood and locally grown steaks. Also in Portland is the Osher Collection of Maps (ask) and a substantial art Museum. Lobster and clam shacks are on the edge of town and serve some of the best, les expensive New England chowders, pastas, steamer clams (soft shell) and whole lobsters in the Universe. There are many craft beers with long histories in Portland and you'll just have to try out, Seadog, Gritty McDuff's, and Sebago to name some of my favorites.

The Eastland Park Hotel is in a great location in Portland, however, it's not the nicest hotel in the area. It's a much older hotel than I'm used to staying at, but the rooms are extremely spacious.
I was a bit turned off by the smell of the hotel, and I think it's apparent to the staff as well. You can tell because they placed air fresheners throughout the hotel mounted on the ceiling beans.
Although the rooms were fairly large, there was just a lot of unused and unnecessary space. There was a good 9 feet between the foot of the bed and the television. Given the television was small, it was extremely hard to watch comfortably.
Parking so adequate. They provided free overnight passes, but it was only one entry and exit since they don't own the lot. Normal parking overnight only costs $15.
For the price it was a decent deal, but just not nice enough for a higher star rating.
