East Burnside was once one of the most dilapidated parts of Portland, known for its cheap karaoke lounges and seedy hotels. The past decade or so has seen some serious gentrification, and while the street that divides NE from SE Portland still has an element of shadiness, most of the small businesses here have really cleaned up their acts. The Eastside Lodge is no exception, and this pleasant hotel in the shell of what was once an ill-reputed Thriftlodge is now one of the better deals in town. The recently renovated rooms are spacious and come with fridges, microwaves, and safes. And while the hotel's decor is relatively uninspiring, it's a good clean place to lay your head without having to drive far from the city center. Best of all, parking is free, although the area is well enough connected by public transport that you really don't need a car.Recommended for:

The Eastside Lodge is in a super great location. It's just across the street from the Doug Fir Lounge/Music Venue and just a 10 minute bus ride to downtown Portland. Burnside is one of the major roads in Portland and countless bars, coffee shops, restaurants, music venues, art galleries, and other attractions are minutes from this location via walking, bus, or car. While the exterior of the hotel reminds me of college housing dorms; the rooms are clean and have microwaves and small fridges in them. The gentleman I interacted with at the front desk was very helpful and sweet. It doesn't appear that any type of complimentary breakfast is provided in the morning (but there are plenty of great spots to mange at within walking distance). There are vending machines and coffee by the front desk.Recommended for:

This hotel is just a block away from the art/design hotel, The Jupiter Hotel. That one is little and fills up, and this one is so close that you can pay less to stay here and walk on down to The Dug Fur Lounge connected to The Jupiter, and eat or see a show. Burnside has cleaned up and this is a really central location on the dividing line between NE and SE. This is a little bit more than some of the skuzzy Motel 6 etc.options in the area but it's still way cheaper than the downtown hotels, and you can just take max downtown or walk across the river. If you just need a bed and don't want to be caught up in anything shady and want to experience Portland, this is one of the best hotels around. The pool doesn't work anymore and it could use new bed spreads, but it has fee parking and a walkable location, so I wouldn't complain.Recommended for:

Located off inner E. Burnside, this lodge is a mid-20th century type motor hotel. It’s a very clean, a bit worn but well run hotel in a slowly improving area.
Perfectly placed (with complimentary parking) to take advantage of the Portland downtown, NW shopping areas, the NE convention areas, and really anywhere else you want to go in Portland if you have a car. It’s in a central location without the price and no parking fees!
Amenities are few, but if you are interested in a basic clean hotel that is low to moderately priced then this would be a good choice for the business traveler or tourist staying a few days in Portland.
The rooms are average, nothing special. The usual boring configuration, but if you are a smoker then there are rooms available. If you are not a smoker, it would be important to find a room at the hotel that is far away from any smoking room.
The management of the hotel is very courteous, professional, and I had the impression they would go out of their way to make your stay comfortable!Recommended for:
