If you have a small group, I recommend the cottages as they offer a lot more privacy, a kitchenette, and each one has it's own private hot spring pool adjacent to it. There is ...

So, the Hilton Colon is less charming than my last suggestion, but it's in the same part of town and is pretty much the nicest hotel you can get this close to the old city. Quite simply one of the finest hotels in all of Latin America. And the hotel staff was on the same par as this magnificent hotel. Although I had problems breathing in Quito's high altitude, the Marriott staff did everything they could to help get me through the first couple of days, including provide me with an oxygen tank.
