Big Newport isn't merely a hyperbolic attempt at the best and biggest; it literally IS the biggest screen on the West Coast. This theater is intensely big.
I have to exercise a bit of whimsical nostalgia here, which gives me a certain bias to Big Newport. Growing up I spend many a Thursday Night/Friday Morning here for the 12:00am showings of new releases, often times waiting many hours in advance. In fact, I am unashamed to say that I camped out here for the release of the new(old) chapters of Star Wars. Big Newport basically gave us power for our tent city for a WEEK, with use of the bathrooms, and allowed us to build a quasi-city full of like minded geeks such as myself.
You might be saying to yourself, "IT'S A TRAP!," but it wasn't. I've had nothing but good experiences here. The staff is friendly, it is usually one of the main spots for the Newport Beach Film Festival, and is just a short walk from Muldoons, and Fashion Island as well.
Although I can't say that I am a huge fan of where the big budget movies have taken us cinematically, but I can tell you that there are few things cooler than sitting in a theater with over 500 of your closest friends watching Jar Jar Binks destroy an entire legion of Star Wars fans in a few short sentences.
If I am going to pay the ludicrous prices to see a movie, you best believe that it's going to be at Big Newport.
