Definitely not your average hotel, the Efuru Guest House is situation in a non-touristy part of town and certainly offers accommodations different than those standard of city tourism. This brownstone in Harlem is a private residence which rents out rooms to travelers from all over the world. A new kitchen with state of the art appliances and plenty of sunlight is available for use, and a living room and sitting area decorated with elegant furniture are around to help you feel at home. For those who like a DIY type of vacation, this is a great place to check out to feel like you're living in the city rather than just passing through. The hotel staff is not always around, and guests are provided keys and passlock codes to get into the various areas of the property. Two types of rooms are available: mini apartments with private baths and kitchens and deluxe rooms, which are just bedrooms. The location may not be typical for a visit, but it's much quieter and only a ten minute walk to Museum Mile, Central Park, Morningside Park, Columbia University, and, of course, the subway.

You may almost miss this place as you walk by all the pretty brownstones in the Upper West Side. This charming Guest House looks more like a home in the sophisticated neighborhood than a inn or hostel and blends in perfectly with its surroundings. And you'll feel like a native New Yorker too living in their mini apartments with your own little studio equipped with a kitchen and private bath or even in their deluxe fully furnished rooms. This is a perfect place to stay if you're looking for a month-long temporary home to call your own. You're pretty close to the subway so you will have easy access to explore all that Manhattan has to offer when you have time off.
