Much less crowded than other Santa Barbara beaches, "El Cap" has good parking, and even an overnight camping area for vacationers looking to rough it — that is, as rough as drive-in camping at a beautiful beach can be. Just 15 miles north of Santa Barbara off Highway 101, it's an easy trip from town.

My favorite beach in the area by far. It really is unique. A beautiful setting with a cove that has some of the best diving the area as well. People travel long distances to camp out here for days. For us locals, we're grateful to have access to it whenever we want (and can afford the $10 gate fee).

Awesome overall. Parking: go early or park in the neighborhood across the street. When you arrive you can head left if you don't mind dogs unleashed and an occassional poop here and there. I advise You head to your right and enjoy the pooches followed by their responsible owners. Amenities: showers, restrooms, and a good place to eat if you ...

It may be small, but this downtown art museum is really a prize. The special exhibitions feature creative contemporary art (South Korean photography the last time I stopped by) and upstairs they've got some incredible multi-media treasures, especially from around Asia. Sunday is usually pay-what-you-wish day, when museum entry is by donation.
