El Celler is famous for showcasing the best of Catalonia, so we expected a lot of seafood and fresh flavours and were not disappointed. In fact there was only one red meat course, the sublime steak tartare with mustard ice cream (tiny balls of frozen perfection). This oversimplifies what was on that plate; the full description runs four lines long and is the most complicated dish on the menu. Every morsel sings in tune with the layers that make it complete.

I was at a conference in Girona where the catering was done by El Celler, voted the second best restaurant in the world. And I thought the first best should be a bit worried.
Perfectly fried calamari, campari balls that popped in your mouth, anchovies I couldn't get enough of (even though I don't like anchovies). Next time I'm in Girona, I wouldn't miss a chance to go to this restaurant (even though it's in a rather bland suburb, I hear).

Gourmet restaurant run by three brothers in an unassuming suburb of Girona. The classic menu is an affordable €75 per person. Voted second in the prestigious San Pellegrino Word's 50 Best Restaurants awards 2011.
