Before I came to Argentina, I did not like beef. Then I came to El Desnivel, and I discovered what steak should really taste like. Simply prepared (salt and pepper is all you need!) and affordable, this parilla's steak items are some of the best in the city. This restaurant has a lot of history, as does the neighborhood itself. Stroll around La Feria de San Telmo Sunday afternoon, and then hunker down to a hearty parillada at El Desnival. Reservations recommended.

In my experience, when you walk into a restaurant and you see all the waitstaff are old guys who have been there for a million years, and they all look like they're having a good time, it's a very good sign. And that's the case at Desnivel, where both the service and the food was excellent. The steak was great - as it tends to be in San Telmo parrillas - and the price was somewhat cheaper than at similar places nearby. We also had .... I'm forgetting what it's called, but it's like a breaded and baked cheese, all goey in the middle. It's gotta be even worse for the arteries than the steak, but was super yummy.

El Desnivel was recommended in a bunch of books and on various websites, so we decided to grab lunch there before our tour of El Zanjon. Don't let the cafeteria kitsch fool you - food here means business. The Entrena is delicious, sangria tastes like juice so you'll never feel the buzz coming. Service is great and bathrooms are clean.

El Desnivel is a tradition Argentinian Parrilla located in San Telmo. I have been here 3 times in the last 6 years and the food is consistently good and the location is excellent. During the Sunday San Telmo Antique fair, this place gets really busy so expect to wait. Other than that, you can walk in and get a table. The service is direct and efficient and priced very well.
