Okay so this place doesn't actually open until something like July 2012. I stayed there before it opened due to an unexpected set of circumstances that bode well for the quality of service of this place: I had made a reservation at another similarly-price hotel a few blocks away (Hotel Etrusca) but when I arrived they were full and had no record of my reservation. I was distraught and the guy behind the desk flew into action, calling his friend who runs the Emerald Palace. That guy came to meet me at Hotel Etrusca and then walked the couple of blocks with me. The way to know that you're at the entrance to Emerald Palace, which at least when I was there was not labeled, is that you walk to the Duomo and when you're about to physically touch the Duomo, the door to Emerald Palace is on your left. That's what it felt like to me, anyway.
You enter into a common area where breakfast is served and winds up being a central and welcoming common area for everyone who is staying there. The vibe is social, like an upscale hostel. The kitchen area is open for use, so you could grab some ingredients from the market and cook yourself (or your fellow guests) a meal. This adds a lot to the homey feel. My room was adorable! The arty paper lampshade threw patterns all over the peachy orange walls -- cool! It also had a heating/cooling device that was operated by remote. This is a great place to stay. I highly recommend it.
