This massive newly constructed palace is both tourist attraction and hotel. On the hit list of top sights for the city. There are also a number of top notch restaurants but prices are high.Recommended for:

The Emirates Palace Hotel was built by and is owned by the Abu Dhabi government, and is the second most expensive hotel ever built, only surpassed by Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The cost of staying begins at $400 per night for the Coral Room (floor space of 592 square feet) in the low season; and The Palace Grand Suite (7319 square feet) is the most expensive at $11,500 per night. Emirates Palace offers 1.3km of exclusive beach, two swimming pools, one designed for adventure and one for relaxation, tennis courts, cricket, a rugby pitch and soccer facilities, fitness suites and a spa, besides water sports.

Absurd. Ridiculous. So blingy your eyes will bleed. The scale and shininess of this hotel is about as over-the-top as things get in the Emirates...which is pretty over-the-top. Granted, I didn't stay the night here, so I can't comment on all its facilities, but I must say, the people-watching in the lobby was exceptional (the idle rich being...very idle, on big sofas; note the ban on photos of people in traditional Emirati dress). And the pseudo-Emirati restaurant here--one of the few places that serves local food--was interesting and good, assuming you actually order the traditional dishes. In addition to eating and lolling, you can also see various art and artifact exhibits, and a massive exhibit on the expansion of Abu Dhabi--very impressive.Recommended for:

Living proof that loads of money doesn't buy you good taste. The rooms are palatial (and extremely comfortable), the grounds immaculate and the site vast. But the place somehow evoked a sense of emptiness (and not just in my bank account). You don't have to be a guest here to have a taste of ostentation: just visit the lobby and order one of the hotel's signature hot chocolates, sprinkled with gold leaf, and yours for $97.Recommended for:

From the outside it looks very grand. I believe it would of been prettier to see if we were there at night. I believe it lights up pretty nicely.
Like Burj Al Arab, you need reservations to admit inside. If you have the extra cash and time, must go.
