A warren of unique rooms from doubles to suites that can accommodate families, with a gorgeous garden for breakfasting and sipping wine in the afternoon, the Empress Zoe is somehow still very reasonable. I stayed in a suite on my honeymoon and it was wonderful...welcoming without being obtrusive. The penthouse suite has roof terrace access to boot. With reasonable prices ...

Hagia Sophia — an amazing piece of Byzantine architecture with an exceptionally rich journey from basilica to cathedral to mosque to a remarkable museum that it is today! The exterior is splendid for its contour and scale whereas the interior is wonderfully adorned by mosaics of all colors and shapes. A visit to Hagia Sophia allows for a profound cultural ...

Yes, this is a beautiful mosque, but with the huge crowds, it kind of loses its impact. My regards to the observant who manage to focus with the quiet hubbub going on. I'd say it's good to see, but I prefer the smaller, less crowded mosques, even if not as grand, they are still beautiful.

Impressive architecture, incredible history, but not too much there. Unless you're really into aqueducts, I think you can get away with viewing this one from the highway that runs under it.

Located in the Hippodrome or Sultanahmet Square it was constructed for the second anniversary of German Emperor Wilhelm II's visit to Istanbul. However it was built in Neo-Byzantine style. It's a kinda cool place to check out if you happen to be walking around the square. Otherwise it's not mandatory to visit while in Istanbul.

Poor Hagia Irene never gets the attention accorded to her sister church, Hagia Sophia. It was built during the Byzantine Golden Age so it's just as old. The Turkish government doesn't help matters by closing the church to the public. If you find yourself walking through the main courtyard of Topkapi Palace, spare a moment to check out Hagia Irene.

The Hagia Irene Museum, sentenced in English as Saint Irene, is a former Eastern Orthodox Church. It is located in the outer courtyard of Topkapı Palace in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. The building reputedly stands on the site of a pre-Christian temple. It ranks, in fact, as the first church built in Istanbul. It served as the Church of the Patriarchate before ...
