A warren of unique rooms from doubles to suites that can accommodate families, with a gorgeous garden for breakfasting and sipping wine in the afternoon, the Empress Zoe is somehow still very reasonable. I stayed in a suite on my honeymoon and it was wonderful...welcoming without being obtrusive. The penthouse suite has roof terrace access to boot. With reasonable prices and a location literally steps from the main sights of Istanbul, the Empress Zoe is one of those really perfect hotels.

I usually run a mile from any place which describes itself as a boutique hotel as often you'll end up with something over-designed and over priced, without taking into account basic comforts and the practical needs of travellers. That can't be said of the Empress Zoe, where each of the rooms and suites has been individually and lovingly decorated - some with their own courtyards or terraces.
The hotel is a terrific choice for a first time visitor to Istanbul - you essentially get the same Sultanahmet location as the neighbouring Four Seasons hotel, but for a fraction of the price. The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia are just a few minutes walk away.
It's reasonably-priced and, as a consequence, tends to get booked up many months in advance.

I loved walking into the stone-lined lobby of this hotel, climbing up the spiral staircase and walking the marble floors to the comfortable room with lovely Turkish décor. The balcony overlooking the garden patio was a nice perk. The breakfast spread was excellent in traditional Turkish style, with a variety of breads, fresh fruits, and real jams and jellies, not the packaged stuff. The beautiful back patio and garden had plenty of greenery, creating private little alcoves to enjoy refreshments in – or drinks at night. On the roof is a wisteria-enclosed terrace with lounge chairs, looking out over the Marmara Sea. As if all this weren’t enough, the location is prime – in a lively neighborhood with shops and dining options, and just blocks from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and more.

This gorgeous boutique hotel, located in a renovated Turkish bathhouse, stands out for its romantic, traditionally-styled rooms full of Turkish textiles and furniture, a stunning courtyard where extensive breakfasts and teas are hosted, views of the Marmara Sea, and an ideal location: in the middle of Sultanahmet, just steps from attractions like Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
