Ercolano is one of the ancient Roman towns ruined by a volcanic eruption. With its well kept, stunning architecture and structures this place is well worth the time and effort. If you ever want to be even close to appreciating the impact this city went through you'll have to see it with your own eyes!

Ercolano is great and a very easy alternative to Naples if you don't want to deal with the crime or crowds.

aka Herculaneum, was covered and preserved in the same eruption that destroyed nearby (and infinitely more crowded) Pompeii. I do not recommend missing Pompeii, but its easy to see both and Ercolano offers a very different feel from its larger cousin.

Description

Herculaneum (Ercolano) was buried in the same eruption that destroyed nearby Pompeii, and was preserved in much the same manner. The first of the Vesuvian towns to be uncovered, Ercolano has proven a historical goldmine, even with only a small portion available for excavation due to modern construction on top of much of the buried city.
