University of Oregon dominates the town (in a good way). Yes there is much to enjoy in the way of sporting events (football, track, hoops, etc.). There are also wonderful summer festivals. Great new lodging options around 5th St market. Microbrews and other eateries have stepped up their game. All framed by a beautiful river which has great running/biking/walking trails.

A beautiful town surrounded by endless National Parks...but really, where in Oregon can't you find a National Park. I like Eugene as a stopping point if you're traveling through or down the state. Take your time to look around and enjoy what there is to offer.

Eugene is a college town and the home of the University of Oregon Ducks. So there are a lot of things you might find in other similar college towns, such as more apartments that your typical suburb, more cheap restaurants and drinking establishments near campus, and services for students. But Eugene is a nice community in it's own right, and personally I like college towns because there is usually a lot of energy and new generations with ideas and tastes that keep things moving forward.
PS - being a Cal alum, I hate the Ducks!
