The third Marriott hotel on the Marriott campus in Portland North Harbor is the relatively cheaper Marriott. Although good quality in the Marriott tradition it is without some of the refinements and qualities of the other two brands. I sense it is marketed toward the budget to moderate price business traveler and families. That being said, this new hotel has really all you need for a comfortable stay at a reasonable price.

The rooms are clean and comfortable with cable tv, wifi, and the other usual standard amenities. Rates include a complimentary breakfast, a fitness facilities, an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool.

The staff here, as with other two Marriott properties, are very friendly, professional and hotel proud. This hotel is certainly a good alternative at its market price range to any similarly priced hotel in North Portland.

Considered the "budget" property of the three Marriott-owned properties in the North Harbor part of Portland (although Courtyard is sometimes cheaper), the Fairfield is a pretty basic but well-maintained property with simple, small rooms (some with high ceilings), and indoor pool, and a small game room for kids. The interiors use more vivid colors than your average preschool playroom, which is a nice contrast to Portland's grey skies (although it may be a bit much for some people). Guests at this hotel can also use the tennis court and outdoor pool at the Residence Inn on the other side of the parking lot.

Of the three Marriotts right by each other and by I-5, the expo center, and the airport, this one was the only one with a working pool when I was there. The hotel is painted brightly inside and outside. There's a bright common area and breakfast nook, a freezer with ice cream for purchase, and a very small gym. If you want to use free weights you can go to the Marriott across the street. There's no view from this hotel, and no restaurant outside of the free breakfast buffet. The Max is supposed to be a five minute walk away, but really the area is more set up for cars. Because there are three Marriotts near each other, the shuttle to the airport goes every thirty minutes. It's not a bad hotel, but I'd rather stay at the Marriott across the street not because I like the Mexican Hacienda theme but because of the view of the Columbia River, Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Hellens.
