The view, the food, the people, the lake, the glacier, the trek to the tea houses and sometimes four seasons in one day
Rarely there is a place with history, elegance, location and nature combined in such a perfect mix.Recommended for:History Buffs

Chateau Lake Louise is one of the classic castles of the Rockies and lives up to all its' billing. Sitting beside the lake of the same name its a stunning bit of alpine architecture and a fine home base for some mountain adventures.

I stopped by again a few weeks ago on a Warm and Sunny Sunday Afternoon. Unfortunately, ours was a day trip from Calgary and there was precious little time to do anything but scratch the surface of this wondrous part of the Canadian Rockies.
This is the place that Gayle would most like to stay in the Canadian Rockies. The last time we were here, I chose the Storm Mountain Lodge (on top of the Hill on the way to Radium), which was great by me and just OK by her. I like comfortable rustic, while she wants luxury with those gorgeous views. And nothing short of the Gold Floor will probably do.
My key issue with the Chateau Lake Louise is that folks love it (and the Lake of course) too much. I found the crowds "jump the shark" oppressive, and it was only the outstanding professionalism of the Hotel staff and a brisk hike past the Lake that restored my faith in all this stunning grandeur.
Like the Banff Springs Hotel down the road, I haven't stayed here either. Yet, the Chateau Lake Louise is sort of my obelisk that I gravitate to when I'm in the area.
The view of Lake Louise from the hotel lounge is worth sneaking past (or down and around) the "guests only" ropes. It's stunning in any season you're here.
From there, I have walked to the end of the lake and back. In the winter, you can walk on the lake, admire the ice walls, and look forward to your next day's skiing nearby at Lake Louise or Sunshine. In the summer, I have proceeded up to the Lake Agnes Tea House and to the other establishment near the foot of the glacier for a great day's hike.
The only negative perhaps is that their new addition (including convention space) doesn't do the original building much justice. Please also note that although there is ample parking, folks there will sometimes check to see that you have your national park pass before you enter the lot.

This luxury hotel is situated on beautiful Lake Louise. As part of the Fairmont chain, it offers a full service hotel. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, there are a number of restaurants and casual cafes to enjoy after walking around the lake.

since you have an RV - just park it in the nearby RV parking and try the deli at the hotel for kids-friendly meals to take for the hike . they also have a great ice cream shop
from there you can start a 12km hike ( 3km easy near the lake and then 9km to the glacier). you can also book a guided horses trip from there ( do it a day in advance or even more as August is high season )Recommended for:Family Travelers

In winter, guests can strap on cross-country skis and head out for the day right from the Chateau, which is best known for its magnificent lakefront location, surrounded by snowcapped peaks and tall firs. Summer brings pleasures like hikes, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and rides on the sightseeing gondola. Members of the Rolling Stones and the British royal family have been among the guests at this upscale 550-room resort, and the movie Doctor Zhivago was filmed here—along with an episode of the reality TV show The Bachelor.

Whilst this Fairmont is not as spectacular as the one in Banff it certainly is a great backdrop for photos taken at the other end of Lake Louise. Take a walk around the Fairmont and you might be lucky to see their resident dog. Otherwise just marvel at the architecture!
