- Fairmont Kea Lani Maui
Dome sweet dome. Rising from the flawless blue Pacific like an Arabian dream, the Fairmont Kea Lani, with its acres of pools and water features, fragrant tropical gardens and elegant white-domed lobby, has a totally different feel from the tikis-and-torches ambiance of other Maui resorts. If you're into midnight skinny-dipping and dancing 'till dawn, this might not be the resort for you. If you prefer a resort where you can chill by the pool or on the beach, and never have to leave (there are five on-site restaurants, plus the open-air Luana Lounge), the Fairmont might be just what the doctor ordered.
- Fairmont Kea Lani Maui
When I walked into the Fairmont Kea Lani, I was impressed by the unusual white-domed architecture, stunning woodwork, stone, marble and tile. The front desk and concierge were courteous, welcoming and exceedingly helpful. I felt so out of the box. When we entered our private cabana-style bungalow, we found it tastefully appointed, with clean, low-rise furniture, not too ostentatious or overdone, notably lacking loud floral prints. One tiny flaw: the docking station was outdated for my iPhone; luckily I brought my charger. The comfy beds were outfitted with lush linens and the perfect cush. The stunning ocean-view room featured a sparkling marble bathroom, its tub perfectly sized for soaking after a long day at the property's beautiful soft-sand beach. Did I mention the cabana's breathtaking views? After check-in, we moseyed to the swim-up bar and chatted with the other guests, sharing a mai tai and comparing notes about the beauty of the hotel. After our libation, we were in agreement: stay put and have dinner at the Fairmont's open-air Kea Lani Restaurant. After all, when you're in paradise, why would you ever leave?
