My husband and I stayed for two nights. We found the hotel very comfortable and the service was excellent.
Our room had a working fireplace and windows on three sides which made it very attractive when the sun shone. A complementary bottle of wine was in the room when we arrived. There was a lot of complementary extras throughout the hotel, such as fruit and bottles of water. We particularly appreciated the shuttle service into the town of Sonoma since we did not have our own vehicle and it was close to a couple of miles to walk into the town. We also made use of the complementary fitness and yoga classes.
The spa was very good and for any service, use of the bath and pools were included. The price for services was better than my usual spa at home.
There is also a heated outdoor pool which is not part of the spa and which provided food and beverage services.
We only had brunch at the restaurant. The sparkling brunch which included sparkling wine was rather expensive given that we couldn't eat even a small portion of what was offered. However, the food itself was very good.
The setting of the hotel is charming and relaxing. We would undoubtedly return again if the rates were reasonable.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

There are so many beautiful places to spend a special weekend in Napa. Each property boasts something unique, so there truly is a perfect for everyone and every occasion. I believe that something special about the Fairmont Sonoma is the Spa.
The hotel is built over hot springs, which guests can enjoy at any one of the seven pools. The 40,000 square foot spa features a fully equip fitness center, group classes and aserene outdoor pool. When you step inside the treatment area, the smells of eucalyptus automatically relax you. Then you commence the European bathing ritual, which features individual mineral baths, private whirlpools and a dedicated Watsu pool.
After your treatment, slip your robe on and float back to one of the 285 rooms. Be sure to book a room with a fireplace to create that special cozy, romantic touch. Every room is provided with a complimentary bottle of wine, and drink up for a good cause: for every bottle enjoyed, a tree is planted.
Right now the grounds are undergoing a major renovation, targeting completion in June 2013. The rooms, the lobby and the restaurant Sante will all receive massive upgrades. For now, guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Big Three (be sure to try the lemon cottage cheese pancakes). If guests can break away from the Spa, they can continue to play at the golf course, tennis courts and meeting space about a mile away.
Virtuoso amenities include an upgrade on arrival, subject to availability, daily breakfast and $100 resort credit.

the Fairmont Sonoma Mission is an absolutely beautiful property in the mist of the Sonona wine country. The warm spring water pool is a gem and the overall experience in this very well managed resort is peaceful, relaxing, and blissful.

This stay did not live up to my previous Fairmont experiences.
The inn is pretty from the outside, but it's definitely in need of some updates on the inside.
We stayed in a Heritage Room, and I was glad I hadn't paid the full rate for this room. The location in the wing closest to the conference center was noisy. I'm not sure if it was the hotel's HVAC system, but the sound of something mechanical kept me up for a few hours until I found some earplugs. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, however. The bathroom was pretty standard. Don't expect fancy lotions or shampoos here. And the towels were pretty horrible: well-worn and thin instead of fluffy.
I also felt that the service here was not the best. I needed to ask for directions to various parts of the property a few times, and more often than not had to wait while the desk staff finished chatting amongst themselves. The nicest and most professional service I had was when I checked out.
I probably would not go out of my way to stay here again if it weren't for my great spa experience and the fact that i had to cancel dinner reservations at Sante. I'd consider going back with some girlfriends to enjoy the spa and bathing ritual, and to indulge in a meal at the Michelin-starred restaurant.

I've never stayed here but I've been to the spa twice, and it's fabulous. If you get a massage you can use their facilities, which includes an indoor pool and rain showers. Very relaxing to hang out with your friends there while waiting for each other to get treatments.
