Ok, i'm a foodie, so for me this was the best place in San Francisco.
I was in SF for 5 days and I came back here about 3 times just to eat.
The Ferry Building is a very large farmer's/organic/food market, where you just happen to take the ferry.
There are a couple of days during the week when they have farmer's market outsite, where you can buy delicious locally grown fuit and vegetables to eat on our way.
Inside, you will find a variety of little shops ranging from all kinds of mushrooms you've ever seen, cupcake shops, ice cream shops, bakeries, ham shops, fruit parlors, the best falafel sandwich I've ever had, a very nice and cheap Mexican restaurant for quick meals and lots more.

A great destination or even as a walk through on a hike along San Francisco's Embarcadero, the Ferry Plaza is full of produce, fancy food, restaurants, cafes and stores. You can catch a ferry across the bay, and eat your lunch on a bench with a dynamite view. On rainy days you can shop the many gourmet shops and plan your dinner. Love this place, expensive, but always something to admire here.

The Ferry Plaza is where you'll see plenty of commuters who take the ferry across the Bay heading to and from work during rush hour. This is also where the farmer's market takes place. I believe it's every weekend that it happens. The market has some really cool stuff from farmers in the area.

The Ferry Plaza, near the Ferry Building, always has something interesting going on. There's local artists selling their stuff, farmers markets, and other things. If the weather is nice, it can be worth the trip.

It's a beautiful place to meditate while gazing out across the Bay, watching the ferries enter and exit while late businessman rush for the gate. Seagulls fight for scraps and tourists eat their meals along the benches. An unnoticed statue of Gandhi guards a back area where even more views can be had.

Great internal food market. This is the kind of market you'll find in Europe, although this one is pretty spacious, clean, and fairly more upscale than you'll find there (not that there's anything wrong with that...).
Not just a great place for food and drinks and gourmet food items, but there are several excellent restaurants here too.
