Wonderful little town in the outskirts of Florence. Etruscan settlement is breathtaking and it's a convenient place to stay away from the crowds. Spend an afternoon at least. Accessible by local bus from Florence for a few euros.Recommended for:

The road from Florence to Fiesole may not be as attractive now as it was in A Room with a View, or when I was living there in 1969 and traveling back and forth each day on my Vespa. But the road and the village are still spectacular, with many layers of history: Etruscan hill town, Roman ruins, medieval Franciscan monastery, and contemporary dolce vita under the lime trees on the piazza.

Lovely small town on the hills above Florence. Has a very nice camping site and surely some nice other possibilities to stay overnight as well. Not crowded at all and still worth going, even if it's just to have a lunch in one of the small restaurants in the town.
