Though located a stone's throw from Cancun's hopping nightlife, Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach is a a good option if you're looking for an upscale experience without a party feel (on-site, at least!). Rooms are spacious and elegant and all have ocean views; the facilities feature a series of infinity pools, lush gardens, and a handful of restaurants plus a full-service spa. The beach is amazingly calm year-round here--it's almost like a wading pool. It's also lined with palapas for shade and waiters service the area--perfect for a mojito with a view.Recommended for:

I would rate the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral higher if it weren't for a few items. First of all, this is a convention hotel for certain. When there isn't a big group in-house, the place is like a ghost town. Secondly, the hotel is European Plan. This means you get hotel accommodations only with your nightly rate. In addition, we were stopped at the door by the security and told we could not bring in outside food or drink. Excuse me..but isn't this EP? They explained that they would make an exception for one time, but we would need to provide our room number so they could report it. Report to who? The Fiesta Americana policia? This was another strike against the place. The other? I provided 3 brand new Express dress shirts to the front desk for dry cleaning services. Upon return of my never-worn shirts, I was informed that there was a stain problem with one of them. The entire shirt was destroyed by something that their cleaning people sprayed on it. And the other 2 shirts smelled of such strong cleaning fluid that I could not wear them. The management contacted the cleaning people that denied blame. 30 minutes of arguing and waiting got me a resort credit of $70 US. I then had to visit the mall to buy a $120 shirt at Brooks Brothers to wear to the banquet I was attending. Food here is very expensive. Our lunch was $70 for 2 and I brought my own bottled water that I had from the hospitality room. The mini-bar is also very overpriced. My recommendation is to go out for most meals. The best thing about this hotel? You can walk to tons of restaurants and clubs!
Sun goes behind the building at 3:15pm this time of the year. People move down to one postage stamp section near the pier in order to try to grab the last bits of it before nightfall. It makes for a weird squeezing of beach chairs into a tiny space.
I would recommend a ton of other hotels over this one. My room was very nice and that was a definite plus.
