Meat lover? BBQ lover? All of them above?! Well, you are in for a treat! Firestone grill has them all!
I would recommend their tri tip sandwich and the pig sandwich! Their bbq sauce is what hits the spot. Don't come here and expect to not get dirty because you will get your hands filthy dirty. If you are the type of person who cannot get your hands dirty, don't bother to come here because this place does not suit you.
Firestone grill provides a full bar, big screen tv, bar seats and high tables. Oh, and patio seats! There's two separate rooms so it seems. The bar area has the TV and the projectors while the other side of the room provides tables with just the outside view. So you get to choose where to sit depending on your mood.
Note: Remember to have someone claim the seats before it's all taken! And remember to keep your receipts so you know when they call up your number to pick up your food.

It would be a sin to not give this place a 5 stars review. Without a doubt, that was the best tri-tip sandwich I have ever had. 5 nicely sliced juicy and tender tri-tip steak nicely layered inside buffered french rolls, served with delicious sweet garlic BBQ sauce. It was just one perfect sandwich.
The line could look rather intimating as this is a hot spot frequented by locals and tourists. Worry not. The line moves fast and table turnaround is quick too. If you can only get one meal in SLO, Firestone is the place to go.

Crazy busy with CalPoly university students, this is downtown's go-to spot for killer Santa Maria tri-tip BBQ sandwiches and a bucket 'o fries with a pint of Tap It microbrew, also made locally. If you come early for lunch, on weekend afternoons or when school's out, the wait it much shorter. Carry your tray outside to the breezy streetfront patio, which has a firepit for cool coastal nights.

My quest for the best BBQ in Cali has ended. Thank you Firestone Grill. Every time I visit SLO this place on the top of my list. I usually go to Firestone and later have Fish N Chips and clam chowder at Pismo to top a perfect weekend. It is nearly impossible to find great BBQ. I have never lived in the South so you may give me the "you don't know what you are talking about" look. I do know the difference between boiled, grilled, and BBQ ribs. I appreciate when meat is slow cooked for more than 3 hours and lightly char on the grill later.
Great BBQ always starts with great meat and great spices. You can throw the BBQ sauce out the window and it should still taste good. Tender and fall of the bone is the way I like it. Firestone does not disappoint. This is a great find for a small college town in Central CA. There is great BBQ and great seafood in SLO although they lack great Chinese food, but that's another review.
Just thinking about the ribs brings tears to my eyes. I may have to make an excuse to visit SLO. Why do you have to be 250 ish miles away from here? I guess that's about the same distance as Vegas and I can always hit up Chumash on the way. In the mean time, I can make my own BBQ and maybe have some Firestone BBQ sauce sent UPS to me so I can feed my addiction. If you are on a road trip up the CA coast stop by Firestone! Highly Recommended.

Damn good trip tip sandwich. There wasn't much BBQ sauce on it but I'm sure I could have asked for some more on the side. The tri tip is soft and the thickness of the slices is just right.
The bread is a French roll and tasted buttery and garlicky... Ahhh garlic bread in a sandwich!!! So goodddd. Also ordered the pig sandwich which is BBQ pulled pork. That was pretty tasty too but has a sweeter taste to it than the tri tip because of the BBQ sauce.
I would definitely recommend the tri tip, and pig sandwich as a second choice. This was my first time here so I can't comment on other sandwiches! Me and my friends ordered a basket of fries and a side of onion rings. The basket of fries was huge! It is a better value by a few cents to get a basket, but a side of fries would have been sufficient. I added a picture of the basket of fries vs side of onion rings.
There was three of us and with three sandwiches, basket of fries and side of onion rings we were stuffed. We sat outside which was pretty nice and there's lots of seating.. Which they need because the line was consistently long on a Friday night!

The only reason why I stop by in SLO is to go to this restaurant. During my college years, without fail, every time I drove down to Santa Barbara my friends and I would stop by this place.
Firestone grill has the best tri-tip sandwich I've ever had. It's so simple, tri tip meat on a buttered, toasted roll. The meat is tender and full of flavor. You have to ask for their ranch and BBQ sauce as well. So nommy!
The service is super fast as well...it took me only 5 minutes to get my sandwich. Everything else takes way longer though. The fries here are super salty and seasoned with other stuff as well. They give you an insane amount and I can never finish it.
Stop by this place if you're driving the 101 and going through SLO. Seriously. You won't regret it

Sheesh, this place is busy. I mean, I had heard it was popular but wow.
For good reason, as it turns out. In planning our trip I picked this place because it was supposed to be good for burgers and for their BBQ Tri-Tip sandwich. As it turns out, it was indeed good for both. The burger was very good, and the BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwich was just phenomenal. If I lived here, or went to school here, I would be here all. the. time.
Great food, great patio area to eat outside and people-watch, and the inside bar area is huge with multiple (I think I counted seven) large screen TVs to watch sports on.
