Flavors of Belize is a small little hole in the wall hiding in front of some residential apartment buildings and a hot pink motel building on the curve of La Brea Ave.
If I wasn't invited to this place, I would of never discover about this place because of the location and so privately hidden away.
I got to try Belizean food for the first time thanks to Antho L. We got to enjoy over 10 course meals.
The tortilla and beans were excellent! NOT your normal chips and dip. So good! The dip is just amazing, a little spicy and the flavor of the dip.
Ox Tail Stew was delicious. A little bit on the salty side, but put the stew over their rice and it's so delicious!
Meat Pies: Huge and plenty of meat inside!
Garnache- bean tostadas topped with beans, sauce and shredded cheese
Fish panades- empanada like with fish stuffing
Huge chicken Tamales with boned in :-)
Salbutes- Fried pastry topped with shredded chicken, tomatoes and onions
potato salad- thick and hearty
Red bean rice- red bean mixed with rice
White rice- flavored with a hint of salt.. so good!
Soursop juice and pineapple pulp juive
Fried Plantains- such goodness!
Desserts! Coconut tarts and caramel cake
Everything was delicious and seasoned so well. My favorite are the Ox Tail stew with white rice, and the Garnache. Delicious food at a great value!

I think I just found my new favorite Caribbean cuisine--Belizean!
I was in an adventurous mood and was trying to find a unique and exotic place to eat instead of all the usual places. This restaurant is a hole in the wall located in a what seemed to be sketchy motel on La Brea. I was slightly hesitant in going in but I thought I would still take a gamble and try it out. And boy, I am glad I did!!
I mean, it's not much to look at from the outside and the inside but after skimming the menu inside, I started getting a little excited because everything sounded really delicious.
I wanted to try everything almost but I finally settled on the Sampler Plate of the panades, garnaches and salbute which are Belizean appetizers made of corn tortilla and deep fried with different ingredients such as chicken, onions, tomatoes and cheese.
Panades - This reminded me of an empanada. It was a flaky tortilla stuffed with chicken and was slightly oily. You eat it with some diced pickled onions to help cut the slightly oily flavor. It was probably my least favorite of the three appetizers. Rating: 3/5
Salbute - This was probably my favorite of the three because of the combination of flavors. It was a deep fried tortilla topped with refried beans, pickled onions, tomatoes and chicken. This was absolutely delicious! I would definitely order this again! Rating: 5/5
Garnaches - This appetizer is a deep fried corn tortilla topped with refried beans, chicken and covered with white cheese. It was really good to eat too and the generous topping of white cheese gave it such a pleasing flavor! Rating: 5/5
Oxtail Stew - This was my main dish and OMG people, this is the bomb!! I really LOVED this dish. The oxtail was literally fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was such a nice salty flavor. You eat this with the coconut white rice and side of red kidney beans and you are in heaven!! It's so, so good!! I was seriously oohing and ahing as I ate this with just all the combination of flavors, exclaiming to the gentleman who is the owner how good this dish was. I was mixing together all the ingredients, adding a little of the plantain and a drops of the habanera sauce that was provided me and WOW, pure culinary ecstasy!! Rating: 5/5
If you are in the mood to try something different of a Caribbean flavor and authentic, definitely go to Flavors of Belize! Don't be put off by the location because you will definitely experience some really exotic and delicious dishes! I want to try the meat pie and tamal next time as well as the chicken stew which I saw someone else order and looked so appetizing as well. I almost don't want to review this place for fear that people will start going and they would run out of the food faster but, I'll be a nice guy! : ) I'm so glad I found this place and will definitely be back again!!
