The Fort Garry Hotel is a historic Grand Railway Hotel in Downtown Winnipeg, and only a block from Union Station. It was built in 1913 by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, and was the tallest structure in the city when it was completed. I haven't actually stayed here, but the last time I was here I walked through, hung out, and otherwise tried to soak up the luxurious history of this place. That hits you right at the beginning as I climbed the grand exterior staircase and entered the huge main lobby through those cool doors. Also take a look at the brass mailbox beside the elevators. It is original to the hotel, as are the mail chutes on each floor into which guests could drop their letters. It is also rumoured that a ghost sometimes inhabits Room 202 or might otherwise be seen floating down a hallway.Recommended for:History Buffs
