Fort Jesus

Nkrumah Road, Mombasa, Kenya
4.5
5 reviews

Built by the portugese some hundreds years ago. Its an amazing landmark over Mombasa. If i remember correctly the muslims took over the fort after some heavy fighting, which endured over many months. My fondest memory of the place is when me and my wife got into one of the towers to snuggle and kiss.

The park is basically a no fishing zone right off the shore where there are about six snorkeling stations set-up inside the reef. You hire a boat to go around to some of them and jump off and check out the wildlife. Most of the coral is dead, but there are enough bomies to keep one busy for the day, ...

Nyali is the safe, monied suburb to the north of Mombasa island. The houses are opulent, and there is enough security for each of them, that is it even possible to walk around during the night. There are high-end hotels and at least one backpackers (Nirvana). A chill place to stay which is near the beach, and close to Mombasa, ...

The bar is literally on the beach so it is hard to go too wrong with this choice. However, its vibe really depends on the night of the week, season of the year, and there fore the amount and type of characters that show-up. It can be a very laid back beach bar, or a crowded techno seen where its ...

The scenery is stunning here. Long white sand beaches, fringed with aqua blue water. There are also some very nice high-end all-inclusive style resorts here. However, as far as I could tell there was not too much more in Diani, and over half of the beach front properties are huge deserted ghost hotels which is just a bit eire. The ...

Palm fronds fluttering overhead. White sugary sand underfoot. The warm aquamarine water of the Indian Ocean lapping at the shore. A laid back vibe and massage shacks on the beach. Tiwi beach goes down as easy as a cold brew of Tuska Beer.

Not the best place to eat dinner, as the food is somewhere int he okay range, and a bit pricy. However, after dinner, this place still reigns as the spot to go. It has a sand dance floor, a cool wooden bar, and tier seating on beaches and cushions right on to the beach. Drinks are cold, the crowd is ...

As beaches go it is a relatively clean urban beach, with white-ish sands, and touts always trying to sell you something. Unfortunately the water is quite shallow for quite a-ways out, so it is impossible to swim at low tide, and even at high tide, there is a lot of sea grass in the water. Basically a place to go ...
