Built by the portugese some hundreds years ago. Its an amazing landmark over Mombasa. If i remember correctly the muslims took over the fort after some heavy fighting, which endured over many months. My fondest memory of the place is when me and my wife got into one of the towers to snuggle and kiss.

This is the most famous site in Mombasa, a beautiful old fort, with amazing ocean views. A great way to start a visit to the old city centre. I would recommend not taking valuables, and being careful of pickpockets. That being said, Mombasa has the most amazing laid back charm, and its inhabitants are like muslim cariocas.
