Truly a throw back in time, this town is both adorable but touristy, and it really gives you a feel for Florida in a bygone era. Ample restaurants and some fun shops with a few old school but very clean motels. Definitely worth a visit for something different but yet solidly Florida.

Sanibel has an island charm all its own, and a short drive from our home....some charming and fun restaurants, fun shopping, the Ding Darling Nature Preserve (bike, bus, or drive thru), and lovely homes and beaches. Attached at the end...Captiva Island, really my favorite over Sanibel...a bit more secluded, with some fun restaurants on the beach at it's very end ...

Captiva is north of Sanibel Island and separated from Fort Myers by Tarpon Bay. Sanibel's natural beauty is maintained by strict zoning laws but Captiva is known more for bars, restaurants and gaudy mansions. That doesn't mean it's not fun.

This Edenic escape on the Gulf of Mexico is a real slice of Old Florida, with a much-photographed lighthouse watching over Gasparilla Island State Park, tree-lined streets without traffic lights, and long, quiet beaches touched by gentle surf. Stay: The Gasparilla Inn, a member of the Historic Hotels of America and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is the classic ...

Captiva and Sanibel Islands are reciprocals of one another. Sanibel is quiet, residential and more of a wildlife sanctuary while Captiva boasts opulent mansions, restaurants and bars. Both are just different slices of heaven.
