"Billionaires Shortbread" one up from the Millionaires version...The Chocolate Lounge at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh is just heavenly. The menu is really hard to choose from and the cake examples on the conveyor belt don't make the decision any easier! Perfect treat for the family, a great end to a girly shopping trip or a romantic coupley thing to do. Only one small downside, there seems to be no queuing system so it is a bit of an anxious wait as it is quite small and you don't know if another chocoholic is going to push in front of you. Worth it though for sure.

The restaurant is on the fourth floor of Harvey Nichols store (Harvey Nicks to the locals), which is located in New Town in an area full of fashion boutiques. The spelling of Forth is not an error, but a signal that you will be provided with dramatic views sweeping from the Firth of Forth to the Edinburgh castle. The huge windows and plentiful, but discreet, lighting give the space a light airy feel consistent with the look of the store.
There is both the stylish restaurant with white table cloths, and the more informal lively brasserie. We=ve had a few lunches at the brasserie (either before or after strenuous shopping on the floors below) for quite reasonably priced sandwiches and salads.
Dinner is more expensive. The food is Scottish ingredients fused with Mediterranean and Far Eastern ingredients. We=ve had starters of seared Oban scallops with heather honey glaze, and smoked salmon with pine nuts. Non seafood choices for mains include braised oxtail flavoured with Glayva and rosemary, and duck with sautéed foie gras. My lamb dish was delicious. The wine list is sizable. The restaurant is open for lunch 7 days a week, for dinner Tuesday to Saturday. The brasserie is also open for late breakfast. Dinner reservations in the restaurant are strongly recommended as this is a popular spot.
