I remember watching the Charlie Rose show once and he was interviewing the owner of the Four Seasons in New York. I was living on the west coast of the U.S. at the time, and I remember it struck me as odd that a man with a talk show mostly about world events would stop to broadcast one evening a show about the food and ambiance of a hotel. And then I went to the Four Seasons in Bangkok, the first Four Seasons I’ve ever been to, and after a couple of glasses of Chianti and a lunch at Biscotti, I too found myself ready for a seriously considered talk about The Four Seasons brand.

Every feature seems contemplated here. Electric blue details in the lobby that in the photographs on the hotel’s website struck me as a little Vegasy, turned out to be picked up from a mural of a mandala on the ceiling, and in person completely worked. When the bar in the garden atrium was described to us as a place where Bangkok celebrities love to mingle, I thought, “and who wouldn’t love to mingle here. Can you blame Bangkok celebrities?” And when one room’s concept was described as how early twentieth century silk tycoon, Jim Thompson’s summer home might have looked, I suspended my natural “spare me” inclination and under the white washed wooden ceilings, by the silk upholstered couches, with the sent of fresh orchids in the air, I just looked out over a golden statue of the reclining Buddha onto The Bangkok Racing Club track, and thought, “Oh, how I would have loved to have stayed at Jim Thompson’s summer villa.”

This is a very well established hotel and they really know what they’re doing here. There is such an amazing collection of Thai murals and on the ceiling and on the wall of the main staircase. I noticed that they had a particularly good sound system for the lobby, playing ambient music with a deep bass. The structure of the building is in a Thai style which includes 3 courts with gardens. In fact the whole hotel is surrounded by gardens. A particularly interesting room is the Jim Thompson suite. It is very popular with families or couples who enjoy to have the space. All fabric is in Jim Thompson silk. There are two twin beds and a master bedroom too. Toiletries are from l’occitane which really makes an impression from what you usually receive in your hotel bathroom. We had lunch at the Italian restaurant. Excellent wine is offered and some of the most outstanding desserts. Try the mint chocolate tart, you won’t be disappointed.

It is relatively older compared to the rest of the hotels in the area but it is still recommended for business trip.
