The Four Seasons and the Rosewood are the nicest options if you are visiting Silicon Valley. The setting at the Rosewood is nicer, with views of the hills, but the Four Seasons does a really nice job, has a great restaurant, and is easy to get to from the airport.

If you're looking for a luxurious place to stay on the Peninsula, this is it. I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I have been with the Four Seasons Hotel in Palo Alto. Smiling faces everywhere, no sense of pretentiousness anywhere, and your every need is quickly attended to. Every staff member I've encountered during my various visits has been extremely professional and hospitable. Who doesn't love getting the royal treatment?
The double room we stayed in was amazing. It was roomy (larger than the king rooms I saw), had the most comfortable feather beds, a huge plasma tv, and a gorgeous bathroom with L' Occitane products, a deep tub, separate shower and its own smaller tv.
Sounds fabulous, right? But wait, it's not just fabulous. It's all about FABULOSITY. How does it achieve fabulosity, you ask?
Start off your Friday or Saturday basking in the sun on the 3rd floor rooftop pool and doing some laps before heading into their beautiful spa. Get a massage treatment and let your muscles relax as you sit inside their eucalyptus steamroom. Then take a shower, change into your most fabulous poolside party attire, and head back to the pool, which is transformed into Liquido, and sip on some cocktails and nosh on sushi and bar bites.
Continue your evening downstairs at Quattro and have a wonderful dinner. Have a night cap at the bar next to the restaurant and chat it up with friendly guests and bartenders. Have several night caps and stumble back to your room.
Order a kobe burger, pizza and fries from room service. While you wait, take a bubble bath. Slip into one of their plush bathrobes and in no time, your food is brought into your room. Enjoy the amazing room service food (fries taste the best at 2am, right?) and pass out (girls: with your fabulous Shu Uemura lashes still on and Manolos dangling from your toesies.)
That, my friends, is how FABULOSITY is achieved at the Four Seasons.

Very nice hotel, once inside you know you are definitely in a four seasons. There is a surprisingly nice view from the guest rooms, on one side you get the bay and on the other you get the mountains. Also, no highway noise -- a nice surprise. Good pool on the third floor and fairly good deals on rooms make this a good destination for all sorts of travelers. It's not walking distance to any noteworthy attractions or restaurants, so having a car is best. Also, the fitness center is somewhat lacking as it only has few treadmills/elipticals.

Ok, so it's a friend's birthday, and we're not really so much into the clubbing scene or loud music bar/dancing scene. We just want a nice place where we can get a drink and sit and chat after dinner. We tried Santana Row, and it was way too pretentious. Then we tried Castro Street in Mtn View, and discovered that it has turned from cute casual pub atmosphere to loud music and clubbing bar atmosphere.
Finally my friend suggests going to the Four Seasons. The bar location was perfect. It was beautiful, and there were plenty of comfortable places to sit. There was this beautiful indoor fireplace that faced floor to ceiling glass. We expected the drinks to be expensive and they were, but it was just a chill place to talk and catch up. Not necessarily a place to pick up on people.
Also when we were there, there was a 10 year reunion of Stanford Alumni hanging out at the bar. Thus bringing a nice mix of people to the location, in what might normally have been a dead bar. (Not sure what it's like on a non-reunion night).

WOOT! Judging from the pool and room I have to admit that the hotel is very nice. The decor is impeccable and decadent. It's like a nice, dark, warm cave that I find most inviting. It is odd that it's located right there by the highway and on the border of EPA...but I suppose that is the sign of the times.
From what I remember I do like their restaurant. It's very woody. I have a thing for wood. The bar is designed a little off but I can live with that. The rooms are nice and the tv is large and flat. Maybe I should have taken the robe too (it wasn't my room)??? The pool is small yet at the same time very....what's the word.....enticing. Especially at night with the different colors going on and the scheduled nightly events. It's fabulous.
