If money was no object and all I want is to be pampered, I would stay here or any of the other half a dozen resorts at Wailea. Gorgeous grounds, stunning ocean views, perfect weather, excellent service, are just a few things the Four Seasons has to offer.

However, if you are looking for a tad bit of nightlife or more of a party scene, then you will have to drive north. Maybe to the local hangouts in Kihei, or more north to Lahaina or Kannapali...

The Four Seasons in Wailea may be one of the most romantic hotels I have ever visited. They cater to couples and honeymooners, and are well versed at what they do. The grounds are perfection. The pools are amazing, both the Serenity Pool and the large fountain pool. The food is great, but was my only complaint. I got bored with the on-site menu quickly. The rooms are lovely. The staff too. I love that they have local artists displaying their works each morning on the lower level. That is a nice touch.

This modern 380-room retreat has a slew of free activities including twice-daily scuba lessons, plus a salt-water infinity-edge pool with an underwater sound system.

Room to Book: Avoid Mountainside rooms, which primarily overlook the driveway (Haleakala is far in the distance). Garden View rooms—each with a lanai overlooking the resort's landscaped grounds—are a better bet.

Insider Tip: Sign up for a free outrigger canoe excursion to learn Hawaiian paddling techniques—and perhaps glimpse a green sea turtle.

Hotel is set in Wailea, which gets the least rain on Maui. You and your wife get 5 star dining, impeccable service and most importantly, a fantastic play area for your kids in addition to activities overseen by the staff to keep them busy, should you decide to break off for a hike, adventure through the roads of Hana or just relax on the beach.

The beach itself is in a protected area where the waves don't get too crazy. The staff will attend to drinks, sprintzes of evian should it get too hot and haul all the annoying stuff. You can also easily rent beach items (for a fee) such as snorkel gear, boogie boards and paddle boards so you don't need to pack these from home.

On days where you don't feel like the beach, they have three pools. One is an infinity pool (adult pool), which offers an amazing view an idyllic pasture of palm trees against the backdrop of the open sea, sprinkled with an island here or there. The other, is a huge pool centered by a fountain where you can live "european beach culture." Finally, there's the kiddie pool, which is equally well adorned.

About 10-15 minutes, the public beach of Big Beach is nearby, which offers some bbq space and a huge stretch of clean sand. Very well maintained, but lacks overhang for shade, so you would need to bring your own.

There is also shopping nearby in addition to a fantastic small sushi joint called Koiso. They have amazingly fresh fish and the sushi chef is a really good and sociable guy.

If you have an Amex Platinum (or thinking of getting one), you get an automatic one category room upgrade plus breakfast credit (something like $30/day). This really adds up.

Snuck over for the day from the Fairmont. The facility and hotel is amazing, but there were thousands of children that made it a little less enjoyable than the Adults-only pool at the Fairmont.

    I'm home.

From the moment you drive up the driveway and into the lobby of The 4S, you feel like you have just entered an alternate universe of class, sophisticate, a warm welcome "Aloha" ...

I was in Maui for a friend's wedding in Haiku and this was the vacation I had always dreamed of. First Class on United. Staying at The Four Seasons. I couldn't believe I was able to make it all come together ... Who am I kidding, of course I could believe it. It was MY year!

    . . . Wait, did I just wake-up a celebrity? . . .

Every last little detail is covered here at 4S:
+ An Aloha greeting with kukui nut and orchid leis
+ The friendliest staff who all know your name. Or was it just this special universe for me ...
+ Rowena, poolside, serving up a daily gratis selection of rice krispie treats, popsicles, organic aloe ... Laying poolside has never been better!
+ Hob nobbing along with the celebs, poolside, at the gym, dining for meals
+ The best breakfast buffet ever ... Fresh juices, fruits, bacon, anything prepared for you, even if you don't see it in the kitchen ...

The only times I left property were for my friends wedding activities and to visit the Wailea Shops. Honestly, why would anyone leave Heaven?

Aloha and Mahalo ... Four Seasons, I love you!

Maui is the best island to visit in Hawaii. You get the right amount of relaxation and the right amount of entertainment and activities. This hotel is right on the beach in Wailea. Blue Helicoptor Tour is a MUST!

Flawless. This place is without doubt my favorite resort on Maui. Great shopping, great restaurants, complementary beach yoga in the mornings, manicured gardens like a tropical dream, a beach that looks like it's freshly raked every morning. You can have the vacation of a lifetime without ever leaving the resort.

It's been 15 minutes and I haven't seen anyone famous. Wait, is that Ben Affleck? Nope, just a lookalike. And seriously, that's the only slight ding on my Four Seasons Maui experience. I am surrounded by flawless, classical beauty and landscaping so perfect I swear it's been groomed with tweezers and nail clippers. Did I mention the adults-only infinty pool overlooking the unbelievably blue Pacific? Whoops, gotta run, it's time for my reservation at Spago in the lobby...
