Where the real jazz happens in New Orleans. A lot of tourists seem to think that the clubs along Bourbon Street are representative of the musical history of this town, but they're missing the real deal at just a stone throw's away. Lots of character, tons of history, a pulsing mess of authentic jazz.Recommended for:

An alternative to Bourbon Street for music venues. Several of the places are tiny, jammed and charge covers of $5-$25 so get there early if there is a particular bar or band you want to hear. I liked it, more than Bourbon St. As Frenchmen's was a bit cleaner and didn't seem to have as many or as many rowdy drinkers in the streets.Recommended for:

Everyone seems to love Bourbon Street, but if you want something less touristy, less fratastic, and something that'll remind you of the Bourbon St. that once was...head thee to Frenchmen Street. It's a bit more local, eccentric, and filled with great jazz venues. From Thursday to Sunday, an art market appears at night right next to the Spotted Cat.

This is where the adults go to hang out. Bourbon St was fun but if you want to not be around all of the tourist you go here. You may catch a Marsalis family member playing at one of the many jazz clubs. There are great restaurants and music up and down the street. My wife and I went there 2 of the four nights we were in New Orleans.
