Great UNESCO site. Educational but also very accessible to people of all ages. Not terribly crowded, and easily got to via the walk along Hadrian's Wall.

At its height, the Roman Empire controlled large areas of what are presently the United Kingdom and Germany. This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a wide range of defenses (walls, ditches, forts, watchtowers etc...) known as the "Roman Limes" that stretch across both countries. The most famous of these defenses is Hadrian's Wall, which stretches almost all the way across England (E/W).
