Wings wings wings! Do not leave without eating the fried chicken - it's spectacular. Everything else is decent but the wings is where it's at! Go early in the evening to avoid the crowds.Recommended for:

Although the portions are smaller, the food is really tasty! I really liked their kimchi soup. My friends thought it was pretty spicy but I thought that it was just right to give it that extra oomph in taste. I also really liked their fried cheese cakes....I believe it was calles hampon cheese or something like that. It is basically a combination of cheese and fish cake wrapped in fried yummy goodness. Definently worth a try if you think this sounds interesting! The downside is that it only comes as four slices :/ Lastly, their chicken wings are super crispy but tasty. I wish they had more meat on the chicken pieces but I do like the crispy white pepper taste. And trust, the spiciest level for this dish isn't spicy at all!

Nice go-to izakaya on Sawtelle. They have their own parking lot, their teba-saki wings are really delicious, as is their grilled on a stick items. Nice place to chill out, have some bar food and drinks.

Furaibo is known for its izakaya style dishes, but is especially well known for its fried chicken. You get to specify what type of chicken you want (wings, thighs, etc.) and how spicy you want it (they even have a sweet option!). The fried chicken is super crisp and so delicious you always wish you requested another order. They also have a good selection of yakitori, my favorites of which are the shitake mushrooms and the sliced beef. Definitely also try the fried fish cake stuffed with cheese. The parking is tough here, even when the restaurant has its own small parking lot in the back. Try to grab a meter on the street if you can. Service is friendly and the food comes out at good intervals.

Really good and creative Japanese tapas in a cozy environment. As everyone else has said, the wings are the must-have dish here (teba saki). They're twice fried and covered in lots of white pepper, and there is something super addicting about them! You can either choose to sit at a regular table, the bar or in the room where you take off your shoes and sit on the ground at low tables. We sat in the room on the ground, and honestly after a short while that got old and kind of uncomfortable. The food comes out fast, and you will be very intrigued by some of the combinations they suggest. There are the shrimp that are fried in the shells and you are instructed to eat them with the shells and all after dousing them in lots of lemon juice, and the weirdest thing by far is the hanpen cheese,...which is a fish cake grilled cheese that is deep fried. No, I didn't mistype that. Think of a grilled cheese with fish cake instead of bread, with American cheese in the middle, that is then covered with panko breadcrumbs and deep fried. It sounds disgusting, and I didn't LOVE it, but it was surprisingly tasty and one of my friends who thought she would hate it went back for seconds!

Went here on a recommendation from my friend and it was a great experience! We sat in the traditional Japanese seating area, where you take your shoes off and sit on the floor. I thought it was pretty cool to eat like that...for about the first 30 minutes. I am not flexible enough to kneel and sit in that position for that long, so I constantly had to switch positions.
Some great Japanese food here...definitely recommended!

Delicious all around! Great place to hang out with friends, enjoy many small dishes and drink beer. Beware longs waits though...and they don't take reservations :( The standout dishes: chicken wings, fish cakes with cheese (I forget the actual name). I know--that sounds gross, but it's somehow amazingly good! After seeing so many order this strange friend looking thing every time I went here, and I finally ordered it, and it's great! Savory.
