Yes, the lines are long. And yes, the ambiance is less than impressive. But the cuisine at Galleria Umberto is oh-so-delicious and so incredibly cheap! I will also admit that I'm usually a crispy, thin-crust kind of gal, but it didn't take long for me to fall in love with the Sicilian style, thick, chewy dough smothered in sauce and cheese. I haven't actually tried anything else on the menu, but I once saw someone with a panzarotti that looked divine. And I'm actually sort of a fan of the no-frills interior. This place is about tasty, down-home, authentic Italian food and that's it. There's just no need for any bells and whistles.

Amazing (cheap) food, not much by way of decor but this is for sure a local spot! A great place to fill up on a super lunch before touring around Boston! Cash only. Get the Panzarotti! You won't regret it!

Description

The long lines at this lunch-only spot attest to the popularity of the calzones, pizza and other Italian lunch treats served at Galleria Umberto. It is hard to say if this popularity is due more to the delicious food or the unbelievably low prices. The professionals and tourists waiting in line do not really care either way; they know that they are going to get a great meal, perhaps with a glass of wine or beer, for much less than $10. There isn't much in the way of atmosphere here; many people take their orders to go.
