During our three years living in Istanbul, Gani Gani was the restaurant that we loved and visited most. The decor is authentic Anatolian although the restaurant is located in a maze of streets near Taksim in the heart of Istanbul. Our waiters were always very friendly, never rushing our service in any way. The food is phenomenal. Gani Gani makes the best lahmacun and lamb shish kebab in Istanbul. Try the Naum Pasha special for something truly amazing.
If you have more than two, consider getting one of the upstairs compartments where you can all sit on the carpet with your friends and eat Anatolian style.

Gani Gani is one of my favorite restaurants in Istanbul. The best kababs and lentil soup! This past year my friends and I went there for Christmas dinner and it was the best!
the whole place is styled in traditional Ottoman rural style and has a very cozy feel. The food is absolutely delicious and it is all reasonably priced. They have regular tables for small groups, but for larger groups they have small rooms with traditional Ottoman seating. Yes! Take off your shoes and relax on carpet pillows, you can stay for hours.
Another thing I like about this restaurant is they are not constantly up in your face, they let you be and eat at your own place. Located off of Istiklal it can be a little difficult to find, but ask anyone for directions people are very friendly.
