Gateway of India

Off P J Ramchandani Marg, Mumbai, MH 400001, India
43 reviews

Although a bit crowded (which is natural as it's Mumbai's most iconic building), Gateway of India is a must visit if you happen to visit Mumbai. This was built during British Raj to commemorate the landing of Queen Mary and King George V. Overlooking Arabian Sea, this monumental arch is a delight to behold.

0.4 mi from Gateway of India
    11 reviews

One of the best museums in India. The building itself is very beautiful. Excellent collection of artifacts and letters. Try and get there early in the morning since the building is not air conditioned. Hence can get very warm in the afternoons. Keep atleast 3-4 hours to explore the entire museum. One of nicer galleries in South Mumbai. They have regular exhibitions from upcoming artists. It's a relatively small gallery. You can even buy paintings from local artists who have their art on display outside the gallery.

    Haji Ali Dargah

4.56 mi from Gateway of India
    13 reviews

Haji Ali has become more commercialized now with hawkers at every corner, not to mention the beggars, which was a serious mood-dampener. What might have been a pleasant walk on the road to Haji Ali with the sea lapping on either side of you, was completely ruined by beggars who kept wailing for alms. The place was quite dirty and ...

    Chor Bazaar

2.67 mi from Gateway of India
    10 reviews

Not everybody digs this glorified and somewhat pushy flea-market in the alleys north of Victoria Terminus, but you have to admit that it has character. Literally, 'Thieves' Market', Chor Bazaar is the place to go for furniture and antiques of questionable provenance, though it's equally engrossing for anyone with a camera and an eye to street photography.
